Character Backgrounds and Alignment

As a DM, I have a relaxed relationship with character background, back stories, and other concepts like alignment (which is de-emphasized in 5th Edition). If we are playing a short session or campaign, I will likely have us jump right in and begin to play and to learn about the characters we are playing together over time.

For longer campaigns, I might encourage you to think about your character’s backstory, share some of my thoughts, or even have you send me some notes so that I can try to incorporate them into the story. This is all optional, if you don’t have the time or interest that’s OK, and we can learn about your character together over time as we play.
